Description
In 1965, Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston faced off for the second time.
The rematch between Ali and Liston took place in May 1965, 15 months after their first fight. The heavyweight title fight would take place in Maine in front of a crowd of nearly 2,500 people.
Ali had a short night in his sequel against Liston.
The champion's well-aimed right counterattack caught Liston in the jaw and knocked him to the ground.
Not only did the knockout allow Ali to retain his title, it also produced one of the most iconic sports photos of all time.
As Liston lay on his back on the floor, photographers Neil Leifer and John Rooney snapped a picture of Ali celebrating his fallen opponent.
The photo became one of the most famous photos of all time, as Ali created one of the greatest moments in sports.
